Campers will gear up, rain or shine, for full immersion into the Wetlands known as Meadowbrook Run (a tributary of Darby Creek), located at the bottom of SHA’s sprawling 16-acre campus. After collecting and analyzing data from the wetlands, students will explore the environmental implications of our actions on our local, regional and global environments, culminating in a roundtable discussion of environmental policy designed to preserve and protect wetlands, and help foster environmental stewardship in our campers.

Week 2

Creative Storytelling & Math in the World Around Us

June 20-24, 9 a.m. – noon

In Creative Storytelling, campers will learn and practice storytelling techniques from short fiction, poetry, and drama. To begin the week, campers will work independently on written compositions. As the week progresses, they will collaborate on a group story comprised of elements from each of their compositions. Finally, students will bring their story to life by way of a live performance set for the final day of the week in our Performing Arts Center.

The second part of the morning will be spent in Math in the World Around Us. Campers will focus on real-life applications of math through technology and nature while problem-solving and following a process to find solutions. They will identify problems through math vocabulary to think of a place where to start to solve problems. Participants will create visual art with crafts and technology to show how math is incorporated in other areas of study.
