Lower School

On Sophie Day lower school students welcomed Mr. Victor D’Ascenzo from the Advancement Office as their first mystery reader. Mr. D’Ascenzo read the story, Thank You Omu written by Oge Mora. It told the story of Omu, who shared a stew she had made with her entire neighborhood, and then the recipients of her kindness showed their gratitude by bringing food to their thoughtful and generous friend, Omu. Follow-up discussion centered around the importance of giving and how service to others is a gift to both the giver and the recipient.

Afterward, the third-grader interviewed Mr. D’Ascenzo and learned about his family, interests, and role in our SHA community. Mr. D’Ascenzo’s favorite subjects in school were English and History and his favorite SHA Goal is Goal 3. Thank you Mr. D’Ascenzo for sharing time with us.

Who will be the next mystery reader?
