This week’s Sophie Day focused on Goal 3: a social awareness which impels to action. Students learned that some families do not have the resources to provide healthy meals. The Chester County Food Bank was formed in 2009 to address the escalating hunger problem in our country. The Food Bank secures, manages, and distributes food to those in need, many of whom live right in our own backyards.
Lower school students joined small, mixed grade groups to learn about food banks and how the Chester County Food Bank helps those in need. Each group then created a poster to educate others about the food bank as well as our upcoming Food Drive, scheduled for April 26 to May 14. The Lower School will be collecting boxes of mac-n-cheese and canned chicken and tuna. The Color Some Kindness Project was also an activity for the day. Each student used her artistic talents to color a cardboard box to be used for food deliveries from the Chester County Food Bank. The decorated boxes filled with food donations will be a welcome surprise of sunshine to the senior citizen recipients!
