Mission

The mission of the SHA library program is to develop students who are independent and effective users of information in accordance with the Five Goals of a Sacred Heart education and the integrated framework of the American Association of School Libraries: Inquiry, Inclusion, Collaboration, Curation, Exploration, and Engagement. The library strives to enable all learners to be critical thinkers, lifelong readers, enthusiastic learners, and discriminating decision makers.

Critical Thinkers  |  Lifelong Readers  |  Enthusiastic Learners  |  Discriminating Decision Makers

The Lower School library is located on the first floor of the Sophie Center and is staffed by a full-time certified Library Media Specialist. Award winning fiction and non-fiction books are available for enjoyment and learning. Lower school classes visit the library once during each 7 day cycle and are encouraged to check out books at additional times.

The Middle and Upper School students have access to the Duchesne Room for quiet reading, research, and study. The Duchesne Room contains a core collection of and fiction and non-fiction books. Students are welcome to visit the Duchesne Room during lunch and study periods.  Library instruction is coordinated with classroom teachers, the technology teacher, and the librarian, providing an authentic learning experience for the student.

A virtual library is also available at school and at home through the SHA LibGuides, which include links to the library catalog, databases, eBooks, and curriculum resources.

Sophie Center

The Sophie Center is a learning environment that provides both space and resources, beyond the classroom, for active learning that includes reading, researching, innovation thinking, and collaboration. Within the Sophie Center there is the Lower School Library, The Innovation Center and the Duchesne room.

Innovation Center

The Innovation Center is an inviting and dynamic space for STEM/STEAM activities, a place where students develop their technology skills and knowledge as a global digital citizen.  Students are taught the fundamentals of design thinking, digital literacy, and the four C’s — critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills.

The Innovation Center is located in the Sophie Center, offering students more opportunities to think, create, share and grow. The center is equipped with laptops, iPads, interactive whiteboards, a 3D printer, programmable robots and various makerspace items. Black and white and color printers are available.
