Sacred Heart Academy merit scholarships are awarded to students applying to Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 9, who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, both in the classroom and on the scholarship-entrance exam. Art, Music and STEM scholarships are awarded to accepted Grade 9 students based on the criteria listed below.  Please refer to the information on this page for scholarship details, application forms, and exam registration links.

St. Madeleine Sophie Academic Merit Scholarships

Upper School students in Grade 9 and Middle School students in Grades 5 & 6 are eligible for merit-based academic scholarships. These partial scholarships are renewed annually. The St. Madeleine Sophie Academic Merit Scholarships are awarded based upon the following criteria:

♥    Strong academic performance based upon grades and standardized test results.

♥    Teacher Recommendations submitted during the Admissions process.

♥    Student involvement in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

♥    Sacred Heart Academy’s Entrance Examination and interview with the Selection Committee.

Applicants are notified that they are scholarship candidates upon completion of the SHA Entrance Examination. The Selection Committee will then invite candidates to an interview. At the time of their acceptance to Sacred Heart Academy, candidates will be notified of their award.

Fine Arts Scholarship

As a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr commits itself to educate to:

  1. a personal and active faith in God;
  2. a deep respect for intellectual values;
  3. a social awareness which impels to action;
  4. the building of community as a Christian value;
  5. and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Fine Arts Scholarship is awarded to incoming 9th grade students and is renewed annually. The award recipient will be expected to be an integral member of the Art program at Sacred Heart Academy.

Art Scholars will:

♥  Participate in the Art program throughout all four years of Upper School and be a Student Ambassador for the Art department.

♥  Maintain B+ average overall in academic studies.

♥  Participate in Admission Department programs & Open House events as a representative of the Art Department.

♥  Participate in Spring musical set design and assist with Spring Art Show displays.

The Application process includes:

♥  Applicants should select one aspect of the Goals and Criteria, (listed above) and produce an original piece of art to express how that specific Goal speaks to you. A photograph of the artwork should be included with the application.  Finalists will be invited on campus for an interview and presentation of their portfolio.

♥  Portfolio Requirements – 1. Three art projects that you are most proud of having completed during the last two years. Photographs of 3D projects are accepted. 2. One pencil drawing (graphite and/or color pencil) of a still life that is comprised of at least three objects. 3. One self-portrait – from the representational to the abstract, a pencil drawing to a collage, you may compose your portrait using any 2D art medium that you feel best represents you.

♥  Please note that Scholarship service requirements are evaluated yearly and fulfillment of obligations are approved by the Art Department Chair.

♥  A written recommendation from your current art instructor is not required, but is recommended.

Alma Mater's Glory Sing - Music Scholarship

GOAL V:  Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

5. Sacred Heart Academy provides opportunities for all members of the community to share their knowledge and gifts with others. Students grow in self-knowledge and develop self-confidence as they learn to deal realistically with their gifts and limitations.

The Alma Mater Glory Sings… Music Scholarship is awarded to incoming 9th grade students and is renewed annually. The award recipient will be expected to be an integral member of the Music program at Sacred Heart Academy.

Music Scholars will:

♥    Participate in the music program throughout all four years of Upper School – including Liturgical Music Ministry and Concerts.

♥    Maintain a B+ average overall in academic studies.

♥    Participate in Admission Department programs & Open House events as a Music Ambassador.

♥    Meet regularly with the Music Director to review scholarship service requirements.

Application and Audition details:

♥    Application deadline is Friday, November 2, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.

♥    Audition performance and interviews will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.in the  Performing Art Center on campus.

♥    Audition Requirements - Each student is invited to perform one to two pieces of music on her primary instrument (voice inclusive). Students are also invited to perform one piece of music on a secondary instrument.

♥    Submit a music resume along with your scholarship application that includes a list of performances, experiences and details of study.

♥    A written recommendation from your current Music instructor is not required, but is recommended.

Sacred Heart Academy students engage in a challenging integrated curriculum that cultivates scientific and mathematical literacy while encouraging a passion for innovation and creative problem solving. We take every opportunity for the girls to be hands-on, and to look for creative applications of STEM, both within and beyond the classroom. Our focus is on developing inquiring, open-minded learners by providing opportunities to see, opportunities to do, and opportunities to experience - all injected with a healthy dose of imagination and creativity. Sacred Heart Academy’s educational philosophy emanates from our profound commitment to meet the challenges of a changing world with innovative classroom strategies and new technologies. Technology is radically transforming the way we gather information, learn new skills and interact with one another. At SHA we are constantly updating our technologies on campus and looking to the future.

Applicants must demonstrate:

♥ Strong foundation in Math & Science classes (B+ average or above, throughout Middle School)

♥ Participation in Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Activities in Science and Math

♥ One written Math, Technology or Science Teacher Recommendation (separate from Admission requirement)

♥ 300 - 500 word essay written in your own words, typed and double-spaced. Please be concise and thorough in answering the following question:

 How will rapid technological advancement change the role for women in science and technology?

♥ Applicants must complete requirements by Friday, November 2, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.

♥ Finalists will be invited on campus to meet with members of the Science, Technology and Math Departments.

♥ At the time of their acceptance to Sacred Heart Academy, candidates will be notified of their award.

♥ The scholarship recipient will be expected to be an integral part of the Science, Technology and Math programs. She will have the opportunity to interact with faculty and students, as together they develop and enhance programs throughout the Upper School
