A SHA First: VB Is State Runner-Up

The Sacred Heart Volleyball team was driven all year by their "unfinished business" mantra. It was a reference to last year's loss in the PIAA Class A State Semifinal. This year they took it one step further, advancing all the way to the State Championship game on November 20. In doing that, they made school history as the first team in any sport to play in a state final.

They faced a tough opponent in undefeated Clarion Area High School, who hails from the northwestern part of Pennsylvania. SHVB came out fighting, but ultimately fell to the defending state champion in three sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-18.)

Their state playoff run capped off a great season (19-7) and included a regular-season defeat of perennial Catholic Academy League powerhouse, Villa Maria, as well as a state tournament win over Marian Catholic, both firsts for the SHA volleyball program. With only one graduating senior, co-captain Bella O'Toole '22, the remaining group is hopeful for another shot at the state title next year.

Congratulations to our Lady Lions on an amazing season and their PIAA State Runner-up title!
