It's a FIVE-PEAT for SHoops!

In what is becoming a long-standing tradition, Sacred Heart basketball hoisted the District 1 AA Championship trophy yesterday in a lopsided victory over Dock Mennonite Academy. Dock had no answer for SHA's crushing defense or a balanced offensive effort that featured scoring by eight players in the 47-11 win.

Junior forward Ainsley Davis led all scorers with 16 points, shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. She also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Kathryn Gallagher '22 knocked down three 3-pointers while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out two assists. Team captain and point guard Mary Lauren Franz '21 (six points, four assists, two steals), along with fellow senior Annie DeFrancesco, have never lost a district title game in their four years with SHoops.

The Lady Lions, coached by Zach Shuler and Brent Schulte, got strong support from its bench. Kyra Santora '22 topped the team in steals with four, while adding six points, three rebounds and one assist. Freshman Annie Corcoran kicked in four points, all from the charity stripe, and Avery Schultz '24 added a bucket.

Next up for SHA -- a trip to the PIAA AA state tournament for the fifth straight time. They will play the yet-to-be determined winner of District 11 at a site to be announced.
