Campus Ministry
A Personal and Active Faith in God
Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr (SHA) commits to a personal and active faith in God, as stated in Goal I of our Mission. Our students' faith is manifested in their everyday actions: how they speak to others with open hearts; embrace differences; serve the less fortunate with dignity; and demonstrate integrity in all they do. Through the education of girls, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, and the Religious of the Sacred Heart, our caring faculty and staff make known the love of God revealed in the Heart of Christ through a rich Campus Ministry program.
Religious Programming
Weekly Chapel
Readings and reflections are given by Lower School students each Monday in the May Cardone Chapel, located inside the Mansion.
School Masses
The school community comes together in the Gormley Gymnasium for Mass on holy days, special feasts, and first Fridays throughout the year. Masses are planned by our Campus Minister and students, and feature the gifts of many of our singers, musicians, and lectors. Priests from nearby parishes and universities are invited to preside at liturgies.
Advent and Lent Daily Communion Prayer Services
The school community observes the seasons of Advent and Lent with Daily Communion Prayer Services offered in our chapel, during lunch periods.
Espacio
Espacio, meaning "space" in Spanish, is a sacred time each day that allows the SHA community to pause, focus their energy inward, and nurture our sensitivity to the Spirit dwelling within.
Sacrament Preparation
The SHA Religion curriculum, along with a selection of spiritual resources, are used during Sacrament instruction. Grade 2 students prepare for and receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Eucharist. Grade 6 students prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation in their parishes. Grade 2 and 6 Sacrament Buddies work together to support and encourage each other during their sacramental preparation.
Upper School Kairos Retreat
Kairos, Greek for "a time with God", is SHA's most moving religious retreat practiced by Sacred Heart Network Schools and Catholic students worldwide. Kairos centers on knowing oneself, discovering Jesus in a personal way, and living the message of Christ. At SHA, Kairos takes place in the winter at an off-site location for several days. Students return to class after a ceremony with renewed faith and purpose.
The spirit is always speaking to us deep in our hearts if we only listen."
