Our History

Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls. Founded in 1865 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the school has been lay-owned and governed since 1969. Sacred Heart has a strong tradition of excellence in education as envisioned by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat.

Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr (SHA) is part of a national network of 25 independent schools located in North America and 150+ Sacred Heart schools worldwide, providing an international campus for our students at Bryn Mawr through exchange programs, academic programs, and service opportunities.

Sacred Heart Academy in Bryn Mawr, PA is seeking to hire a Director of Advancement. Sacred Heart Academy is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls founded in 1865 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay-owned and governed since 1969. The School serves approximately 200 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Sacred Heart Academy is part of a national network of 25 independent schools located in North America which share a common heritage and vision. There are more than 150+ Sacred Heart schools around the world providing an international campus for students at Bryn Mawr.

The Director of Advancement (DOA) reports directly to the Head of School, manages a three-person staff, works closely with the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees, and serves on the School’s seven-member senior leadership team. The DOA creates and implements all aspects of the stewardship and fundraising program, including the annual fund, major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, special events, and alumnae relations to support the School’s strategic vision and to cultivate a culture of philanthropy and gratitude across all constituencies. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible roles in development/fundraising with a preference for experience in an educational environment. The successful candidate must have a broad exposure to all facets of development, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, capital campaign planning and implementation, and data management and analysis, coupled with a track record of success cultivating, soliciting, and closing six-figure plus gifts. The Director will have strong management and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively with trustees, faculty, administration, staff, alumnae, parents, and volunteers. The ideal candidate will be committed to embracing the mission of Sacred Heart Academy, contributing to a community and atmosphere of faith, and promoting the Five Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Must be willing and able to work some nights and weekends and travel when necessary.

Director of Advancement Details


Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) Bryn Mawr (PA) seeks a Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DDEIB), a full-time, K-12 senior administrative position which promotes the School’s commitment to ensuring that all students, families, and employees feel valued and supported at SHA. The DDEIB reports to the Head of School and serves on the School’s seven-member senior leadership team.

Working with other administrators and faculty, the DDEIB is responsible for identifying and assessing areas of specific need such as anti-racist and anti-bias teaching and learning experiences, for building capacity to address those areas through strong partnerships and shared responsibility, and for implementing actions needed to build and sustain an inclusive and welcoming community. SHA seeks a community builder who can assist the School in realizing the vision implicit in its Mission and the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart.

DDEIB candidates will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills and be motivated to work collaboratively with all School constituencies including the senior leadership team. This is an important and highly visible role in the leadership of the School’s overall program. Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, impeccable organizational skills, and the ability to build a strong rapport with students of all ages are key.

Learning Specialist and Instructional Coach

Sacred Heart Academy “SHA” Bryn Mawr (PA) is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls founded in 1865 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay-owned and governed since 1969. Serving approximately 200 students in kindergarten through twelfth-grade, the School is seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic Learning Specialist and Instructional Coach in anticipation of the 2023-2024 school year. 

The Learning Specialist and Instructional Coach will provide learning support and enrichment for students as well as build teacher capacity and understanding of instructional best practices. SHA seeks a community builder with a passion for helping students with learning differences. Candidates will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills and be motivated to work collaboratively with  School constituencies including the senior leadership team, parents, and affiliated providers. Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, impeccable organizational skills, and the ability to build a strong rapport with students of all ages are key. Candidates will commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning, and have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education.

Long Term Substitute English/Theology Instructor

Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) Bryn Mawr (PA) seeks a dynamic, passionate, and dedicated English/Theology teacher beginning in April 2023 for the remainder of the academic school year. 

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic collaborator who seeks professional growth and learning every day and inspires others to do the same through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. The candidate possesses a willingness to collaborate with dedicated educators on developing curriculum. The candidate will show an empathy for and a passion to work with adolescent girls as well as a commitment to the development of the whole child. Instructors must model an active Catholic faith.
